Don’t know what a historical bassoon is? We will have a video up soon explaining what the difference between this and a modern bassoon!

Who We Are

(Deutsch hier)

As historical bassoon ambassadors, we aim to bring the music and character of the 19th century to life. Creativity, discovery, and innovation are king in our programming, and we strive to share our joy of discovery with our audiences.

We wish to walk in the footsteps of our bassoon ancestors and create a concert experience that mixes original music, arrangements, and new compositions written for us.

Common knowledge paints the 19th-century bassoon as an inferior and imperfect instrument, only to be tolerated until the modern bassoon was developed. In reality, what we today call the classical bassoon was, and is, an instrument full of possibilities for musical expression. Bassoonists of the time were exceptional performers and active composers, arrangers, publishers, critics, and concert creators as well.

Since our founding in 2022, we have recorded the bassoon trios of Francois Castil-Blaze, and performed in France, the Netherlands, Germany (our home country!), the USA, and Thailand. Additionally, we have commissioned the first contemporary piece for our trio by the composer Ben Hoadley. Check out our schedule here, to see if we will be near you soon!
